Photos below show an open sight module which was provided
for one of our customers. This accessory is for short range work and enables
the rifle to be used when optical sights are prohibited.
The sight module shown is built upon a pair of Burris Z-rings where the top
half of the rings have been removed and replaced with clamping plates which
hold in place the solid machined aluminum sight base. The sight base is designed
as a platform upon which suitable open sights are mounted. The sights shown
are Tru-Glo fiber optic sights but the base can be designed to take other
sights as well. A receiver / peep sight is most highly recommended for the
rear sight.
Although the sighting plane is short in this system, the rifle platform gives
great stability and very good results can be obtained at least equal to that
possible with a handgun.
Thumb screws are provided which allow the sight module to be installed
on the rifle without the need for a screw driver or wrench.
Obvious advantages to this system are quick and easy changeover from an optical
sight to an open sight and elimination of the need to mount open sights directly
on the barrel surface. This system also places the sights at a sufficient
height for easy acquisition.
